Pefki Gorge
Pefki Gorge is one of the most beautiful gorges of eastern Crete, with amazing rock formations caused by the influence of the natural forces and the intense vegetation. The length of the gorge is approximately 4,5 km. The walking path is easy and follows the riverbed almost at all its length.
Richtis Gorge
Richtis Gorge is located on the northern side of Lasithi district. The path through it starts from the Exo Mouliana village and ends at the Rocky Richtis Beach with a length of almost 3 km. The highlight is the beautiful 20m high waterfall of Richtis that forms a beautiful pond surrounded by the vertical rock formations. The distance from Makry Gialos is about 50 minutes.
Kapsa Monastery
The Monastery of Agios Ioannis Kapsa is built 9km east of Makry Gialos, near the area Goudouras. The monastery is a branch of the Toplou Monastery near Sitia and is commemorated on 29 August. The Kapsa Monastery is built like a fortress on a steep rocky slope above the sea, at the exit of the beautiful Pervolakia Gorge.
Toplou Monastery
The Toplou Monastery is located in the northeastern tip of Crete, at the Sidero Cape, 10km east of Sitia and 6km north of Palekastro. The monastery is one of the most historic monasteries of Crete and is known for the many archaeological treasures it holds. One visit is well worth it, as you can combine the visit with the beautiful beaches of the area, the site of ancient Itanos and the famous palm forest of Vai.
